Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions. Please let us know if you have a question not on the list.

I'm changing/upgrading my telephone service, is this a problem?

If the new service provider places their new equipment in a different location from where the alarm / telephone connection was originally made, then yes. This is common with the new VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) discounted telephone services. And, their installation techs are apt to disconnect your alarm from the line. It's a good idea to let the tech know that your alarm is connected now, and that you expect it to be properly connected before the tech leaves.

It's also very important that their techs understand and follow protocol for maintaining line seizureLine seizure means that the phone line goes to the alarm system first, and then to the premises telephones. This is the industry standard method, and assures that alarm will be reported, even if a premises telephone if off the hook, or the line is in use. The alarm system will restore the line after it communicates all events to central station.

Do I have to keep my telephone line?

No. There are other communication options. Cell radio service can replace the phone line, and is very affordable, given the ever-rising telephone rates. Please contact us for specific information and rates for your system.

I don't have a phone line, will the alarm work over the Internet?

Yes, but there is a caveat. Most residential and small business networks will stop working if the power fails. The phone line typically has a battery backup. But, if your router, modem, and other relevant network devices are not supported by UPS battery backup, the alarm system will not communicate alarm events to central station.

How do I change my PIN?

In most cases, you can add or change user PIN's yourself, from the keypad. Find and click on the picture of your keypad on our Support page, and follow the instructions for adding or changing PIN numbers. If your system is complex, has multiple users, or separately controlled areas within the system, there are extra steps involved, and we can help.

What is a PIN?

PIN stands for personal identification number. It's the numerical code that you use to arm and disarm your security system.

What if I can't change my PIN myself?

We're here to help. You may contact us by e-mail, telephone, or fax. If you are unable to add/change/delete user PIN's yourself, it may be possible for a technician to walk you through it over the telephone, or connect to your system remotely and make the changes for you.*

*As time permits. Some restrictions apply.

What is a "master code"?

Unless your system is complex, or has multiple users with different PIN's, the master user PIN is probably the PIN you already use. It has special permissions, and it is usually the only PIN that can add or modify other PIN's.

I'd like to automate my payments, and receive invoices by e-mail. Is this possible?

Yes! We accept all major credit cards, and ACH (auto check debit) transactions. If you haven't already signed up, just ask. It's easy!
